Are you successful? Do you have joy in your life?
If you can answer "yes" and "yes,", you are one of the few. Many people think that financial success or career success are the same thing as life success. They work hard to achieve that goal only to end up emotionally dissatisfied.
The goal is to enjoy the journey. The goal is about balance. We will spend a lot of time in the future going over how to be successful in business, relationships, and all other aspects of life. But for now, I really want you to think about your everyday life and the people you come in contact with - your spouse, children, clients, coworkers, and any and everyone else. Do they look fulfilled? Do they, to quote Tony Robbins, "live with passion?"
If you are truly going to be successful, you have to have a purpose in your life. In Get The Edge, Tony Robbins gives a familiar example. People say, "I want to make lots of money so that I can retire." Followed up by the statistic that men die, on average, 3 years after retirement. That doesn't sound like a great goal to me. That is a negative goal, it says, "I don't enjoy life on a daily basis and I don't enjoy what I'm doing." What a horrible way to live!
Have you ever been to a store and the sales clerk is at best unfriendly and at worst downright nasty? It is obvious that they don't want to be there. Why on earth do people do this? Why would you work day after day and year after year doing something you hate? And it isn't just limited to sales clerks, I have seen this from sales people, programmers, and nearly every other profession.
And it doesn't have to be at work. We all know people who do things and then complain about it later.
We live in a remarkable time in human history. We have more opportunities available to us than ever before. Take some time and think about what is most important to you. I'm not saying to shirk your duties and go live on the beach sipping pina coladas all day. We all have to do things that we don't want to. If work was fun, the rich wouldn't leave it for the poor to do!
I'm saying, examine your life and start thinking about what you want out of it in all areas - financial, spiritual, emotional, etc.
I think the next blog will be about the power of visualization.
Until next time... The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.
